How to Choose Color Diamond Earrings

Color Types and Rarity

Our color diamond earring collection focuses on three of the rarest naturally occurring diamond colors — yellow, pink, and purple. Yellow diamonds are the most widely available of the three, ranging from Fancy Light Yellow through to the deeply saturated Fancy Vivid Yellow, also known as Canary Yellow. The more intense the color, the rarer and more valuable the stone. Pink diamonds have become exceptionally scarce following the 2020 closure of the Argyle mine in Western Australia, which supplied the vast majority of the world's natural pink diamonds. Purple diamonds are among the rarest fancy colors of all and are particularly sought after by collectors and those looking for a truly unique piece.

Shape and Presence

Cushion cut is the most popular shape in our color diamond earring collection and for good reason — its rounded corners and larger facets allow fancy color diamonds to express their hue with maximum warmth and depth. Pear shape creates an elegant elongated silhouette at the ear and works beautifully as a matched pair, with the gentle movement catching light in a distinctive way. Oval cut is versatile and flattering, sitting between cushion and pear in terms of character — it elongates and brightens. Round cut offers the most brilliance of any shape, which can slightly dilute the color saturation compared to cushion or pear, but suits buyers who prioritize sparkle alongside color.

Metal and Color Pairing

For yellow diamonds, platinum or 18K white gold creates a clean, contemporary contrast that allows the stone's color to take center stage. 18K yellow gold softens the contrast and produces a warmer, more unified look that many buyers prefer for Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid grades. For pink diamonds, platinum and rose gold both complement the stone's delicate hue — platinum for a cooler, cleaner look, rose gold for a warmer and more romantic feel. Purple diamonds pair most naturally with platinum, which enhances the stone's cool, mysterious tone without competing with it. Our color diamond earrings are available across 18K white gold, 18K yellow gold, PT900, and PT950.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fancy color diamond earrings feature natural diamonds with a distinct body color — most commonly yellow, pink, or purple. Unlike colorless diamonds where the absence of color is prized, fancy color diamonds are valued for the intensity and saturation of their color. The GIA grades fancy color diamonds from Faint through to Fancy Vivid, with more saturated grades being significantly rarer and more valuable.
Yellow diamonds are graded by the GIA from Fancy Light Yellow through Fancy Yellow, Fancy Intense Yellow, and Fancy Vivid Yellow. For earrings, Fancy Light and Fancy Yellow grades offer a subtle warmth that works well for everyday wear. Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid — also known as Canary Yellow — produce a bolder, more striking color that makes a statement. The right grade depends on how much color presence you want and your budget.
Natural pink diamonds account for less than 0.01% of global diamond production, making them one of the rarest gemstones on earth. Since the closure of the Argyle mine in Western Australia in 2020 — which produced the vast majority of the world's pink diamonds — supply has dropped dramatically while demand has continued to rise. Finding two matched pink diamonds of similar color and quality for a pair of earrings adds a further layer of rarity and cost.
Yes. Our fancy color diamond earrings come with GIA or CGL certificates, which independently verify the color grade, clarity, carat weight, and other key characteristics. For color diamonds in particular, certification is essential — it confirms that the color is natural and not treated, which is critical to the stone's long-term value.
